Odoo Implementation in Guatemala

FEL (Guatemala's e-invoicing regime), IGSS (social security), Bono 14 (mid-year bonus) and aguinaldo (13th-month pay). Localization isn't a detail for the end of the project: it determines whether the project is viable.

Guatemala has the largest business market in Central America and also one of the most demanding tax environments when it comes to electronic invoicing. An ERP that doesn't handle FEL from day one is useless.

What's specific to the Guatemalan context

FEL requirements and labor obligations change. Confirm the current regulations with the SAT or your advisor before defining scope and dates.

Where projects usually get stuck

  1. Starting certification late. The paperwork and testing with the certifier must start in the first week of the project, not the last.
  2. Dirty master data. Duplicate product catalogs and inconsistent units of measure turn any inventory report into fiction.
  3. Overly ambitious scope. Wanting Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Manufacturing, Payroll and Point of Sale in the same phase guarantees that none of them turns out right.
  4. Training at the end. The team should practice with its own data weeks before go-live.

How we approach it

A tightly scoped phase 1 with electronic invoicing included, migration of catalogs and balances, role-based training and support through the first month-end close. After that, payroll, manufacturing or eCommerce, depending on business priorities. All our own development is versioned in Git and deployed through separate environments.

The full method is in Odoo implementation, and the comparison with other options in Odoo vs. SAP Business One.

Frequently asked questions

Does Odoo work with the SAT's FEL regime?

Yes, through the corresponding localization, which issues documents through an authorized certifier and shows their status within the sales document itself. The implementation must also cover voids and credit notes linked to the original document.

Does Odoo calculate Bono 14 and aguinaldo?

Yes, with a payroll configuration adapted to Guatemalan law, including IGSS (Guatemala's social security institute) contributions and the annual benefits — Bono 14 (mid-year bonus) and aguinaldo (13th-month pay) — with provisions booked month by month instead of being calculated separately at payment time.

How long does it take to implement Odoo in Guatemala?

Between 10 and 18 weeks for a phase 1 that includes Sales, Inventory, Accounting and electronic invoicing. The range depends on the state of your current data and how quickly the process with the authorized certifier moves.

Do you take on Guatemalan projects remotely?

Yes. The work is remote, in Spanish and with minimal time difference, with regular follow-up meetings and deployment through Git. When the project calls for it, we schedule intensive working sessions with the client's team.
